But first, let us share the story behind the village of Dršćari:
For several years, we searched for a place in Croatia, a spot with a location that would take our breath away.
A place that radiates peace and tranquility, that would fulfill our visions of life in the second half of our lives, and that would present us with new challenges every day... In August 2018, while driving through the Istrian hinterland, we discovered the abandoned village of "Dršćari" – pronounced "Dirschzari."
Somewhere between the hinterland and the sea, on a ridge between the Butoniga Reservoir and Motovun, the hilltop town – that's where our tiny hamlet lies.
... And these two places gave this website its name.
After tracking down the owner of this hamlet through our neighbors, the lengthy sales negotiations began. And then, at the end of September 2020, we "felt like" we bought half a village with 3000 square meters of land. In this village, we first restored and lovingly furnished the "old" stone house from 1899, which we completed by the end of 2022. This house will be rented to vacationers as soon as our "new" house, right next door, is finished. We're currently in the "shell" stage of construction.
At the end of October 2025, we left Germany and will be spending our retirement here from now on. What are our plans? You can probably guess...
"Sitting with friends with a glass of wine in the evening sun" is just one of the many possibilities.
So now join us on a journey from where we found it in 2018 to the present day.
